Why odor treatments stop working

Almost every odor treatment that fails failed for the same reason: the source was still there. Ozone, hydroxyl and thermal fogging all work, and all of them work on what is left behind after the source is gone. Applied to a building that still contains the thing producing the smell, they buy a few weeks and the problem returns unchanged.

The second reason is depth. Pet urine goes through carpet into the pad and then into the subfloor, and it is the subfloor that holds it — which is why a carpet clean smells fine for a two weeks and then does not.
